Eyelid Surgery in Hawaii

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is traditionally used to improve the signs of aging on both the upper and lower eyelid. However, Dr. Todd Mirzai also performs "double eyelid surgery" in Hawaii to help Asians (from their teens and up) feel more confident about their appearance.

To learn more about eyelid surgery, you can request an appointment online or contact us by phone or email. Our surgeons have experience in performing traditional blepharoplasty as well as double eyelid surgery, a procedure that not every plastic surgeon has the skill and experience to perform.

Reasons for Considering Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery can treat many of the signs of aging that appear on both the upper and lower eyelid area. These may include:

·         Dark circles and "bags"

·         Wrinkles around the eyes

·         Puffiness around the eyes

Eyelid surgery can also address some of the cosmetic concerns associated with Asian eyelids. For Asians with upper eyelids that do not have a crease, eyelid surgery can create an eyelid crease so that:

·         Eyes appear larger and more open

·         For women, eye makeup is easier to apply and looks better

General Procedure

At our Maui, Kauai, Kona, and Honolulu offices, eyelid surgery is usually performed with TIVA (Total IV Anesthesia). TIVA offers several benefits, including: reduced post-operative pain, reduced risk of blood clots in the legs, lower incidence of post-operative nausea and vomiting, and avoidance of "hangover" effects.

So that scars will not be noticeable, incisions will be made in the natural folds and contours of the eyelids. Excess skin and fat will be removed.  In the case of double eyelid surgery, some muscle tissue may be removed while, with general eyelid surgery, muscle may be tightened.

For more complete rejuvenation, eyelid surgery may be combined with a chemical peel, BOTOX® Cosmetic or a face lift.

Recovery Process

Our practice will make every effort to ensure that recovery is as comfortable as possible after your eyelid surgery. Our Maui surgery center even offers private bungalows for patients flying in from other islands.  Whether you recover with us or at home, we know you'll want to get back to normal as soon as possible, but taking it easy after surgery is essential for making a complete recovery in a reasonable time. It will probably be a week or two before you are able to return to work and, at that point, any post-surgical swelling and bruising should be gone. You should carefully follow your surgeon's instructions so that you can heal properly.
